A partnership between the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Central Hardwoods Joint Venture , and Southeast Partners in Flight has produced an online tool and database to evaluate bird monitoring programs. The tool is currently being tested in selected states with a planned national release in 2009.

The evaluation tool uses a series of multiple choice questions on statistical design, regional coordination, management revelance, and data management to evaluate monitoring programs. The question and evaluation categories mirror the goals described by the NABCI Monitoring Subcommittee in Opportunities for Improving Avian Monitoring .

After submitting information on a monitoring program, users receive an evaluation by email containing: 1) A list of appropriate uses for the data, 2) A list of potential biases, 3) A regional coordination score, 4) A management relevance score, and 5) A data security score.
